Philosophy
We believe that to fully benefit from tasting wines, a systematic approach is required.
The ability to discriminate among wines is not an in-born skill, but a capacity to be developed—like a muscle to be trained. How efficiently it can be developed depends entirely on the suitability of the methods being used. This is why the Wine Elite has worked to develop a tasting methodology that is uniquely appropriate to human methods of gaining knowledge.
Objectivity is a cardinal virtue in the exploration of wines. This means the ability to distinguish quality in a wine—a composite of its objective features—from personal taste. Whether a wine is well made or not can be evaluated in the terms of its balance, integrity, length, typicity, and so on. Developing clarity about these features allows for a valuable exchange of knowledge among tasters.
Our wine philosophy is reflected in all of our seminars, keynote speeches and guided tasting events, as well as in the award-winning wine lists we create, and our recent interview on the acclaimed GrapeRadio. Please take an hour and listen to the wine radio show via mp3 here.
